01 — Identity
What Oanthrope Is
Oanthrope does not tell you which sport your child will become a star in. It assesses your child's current physical, motor and developmental profile, shows the sport orientations that fit that profile, and presents an age-appropriate development roadmap — then updates that roadmap year by year as the child grows.
Most competing tools try to sell parents a 10-minute answer. Oanthrope offers a 10-year journey. That difference is not marketing — it is the only honest way to answer the question a parent is really asking.
02 — The Problem
The Real Problem We Solve
Everywhere in the world, parents ask the same question:
"Which sport should my child do? What are they suited for? Are they in the right place?"
Today this question has:
- ✕ No accessible answer — expert access is expensive, limited, often impossible.
- ✕ Few honest answers — most "talent tests" speak with false certainty at an early age and get it wrong.
- ✕ Almost no answer that unfolds over time.
Yet the correct answer to this question is not a single snapshot. It is a process that matures as the child grows.
03 — Core Philosophy
The Narrowing Funnel
This is the heart of Oanthrope. A child's sport orientation is like a funnel that narrows over time.
Very wide: "Shows aptitude signals toward these sport families."
Narrowest point — and still may not reach 90% certainty.
This model comes from the coaching field and maps exactly onto the most evidence-based approach in sport science: early diversification, late specialization. A child develops in many directions early on; the discipline reveals itself over time, as data accumulates.
What this means for the product
Oanthrope is not a single report but a child's journey over time. Measurements at ages 8, 10, 12, 14… accumulate, and the system can say "the funnel narrowed in this direction compared to last year." The real value lies not in one measurement, but in the line that repeated measurements draw.
04 — Purpose
We Are Not Here to Make Champions
The reality from the field: most young athletes do not become national champions. Most come for what sport gives them — health, discipline, belonging, confidence.
Oanthrope's job is not to find a star. It is to help every child grow up healthy and happy in the right sport for them.
Pulling a child away from a sport they love by labelling them "untalented" is the greatest harm Oanthrope could do. We avoid this with great care.
05 — The Rule of Honesty
Confidence & Language Grow with Age
The system's level of certainty increases with the child's age and maturation. The report's language honestly reflects that confidence. The younger the child, the more humble the language must be.
| Age | Funnel width | Language we use |
|---|---|---|
| 6–9 | Very wide | "aptitude signals", "may show a tendency", "discovery phase" |
| 10–11 | Wide | "developing strengths", "fit with these sport families" |
| 12–13 | Narrowing | "emerging profile", "prominent axes" |
| 14–15 | Defined | "strong discipline fit", "areas to focus on" |
| 16–18 | Narrow | "discipline profile clarifying", "quality score" |
| 19+ | Narrowest | "high-confidence discipline fit" (still not 100%) |
Why this matters: early performance does not reliably predict adult ability. An early-maturing child is faster than everyone at 11 — but that is not talent, only timing. A late developer looks behind at the same age yet may overtake everyone by 17 (the "relative age effect" and "late-developer advantage"). Because Oanthrope already measures maturation (PHV), it does not have to fall into this trap — and it must not.
06 — Scientific Basis
The Science the Engine Is Built On
Oanthrope's strength is that it binds coaching intuition to published scientific models. The engine is built on:
| Module | Model / Source | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Maturation / PHV | Mirwald et al. (2002) | Maturity offset, Pre/In/Post-PHV |
| Adult height | Khamis-Roche (1994) + Mid-parental + percentile channel | Height potential (blended for outliers) |
| Power / speed | Castro-Piñero et al. (2010) | Sprint / CMJ norms |
| Endurance / recovery | Léger & Lambert (1982), HRR1 | Aerobic base |
| Agility | Pauole et al. (2000) T-Test | Change of direction |
| Cognitive | Reaction-time norms | Neuromotor processing |
| Body type | Somatotype, Cormic & Ape index | Biomechanical discipline fit |
Our rule: when a new score or recommendation is added, the source it rests on is documented. No coefficient added "by intuition" survives without citing its source. This is the scientific backbone of the project.
07 — Positioning
Athletics as the Laboratory of Sports
Even though the parent's question spans across sports ("football, tennis or athletics?"), Oanthrope starts narrow and deep:
- ▸ Oanthrope is strongest and most defensible in athletics-based physical/motor profiling — the founder's 40 years of expertise live here.
- ▸ Physical profile (speed, jump, endurance, anthropometry, maturation) is the common language of all sports. A child's "speed-power character" also sheds light on explosive sports — a striker in football, basketball, the jump disciplines.
- ▸ So we position athletics as the laboratory of sports: scientifically sound, honest, and open to expansion.
08 — Ethics
What We Will Never Do
We do not sell early certainty. We never say "your child will be a champion with 90% probability."
We do not close doors. No report "bans" a child from a sport; at most it says "these aspects are stronger right now."
False certainty is the greatest harm. Rather than hiding uncertainty, we state it honestly — trust is born there.
A health screen is not a medical diagnosis. PAR-Q and similar fields are for guidance; we refer to a physician when needed.
Data belongs to a child. Child and parent data are private; longitudinal data is protected as part of a relationship of trust.
09 — Scientific Honesty
Why Oanthrope Can't Give a Certain Answer (and Shouldn't)
This is not an admission of weakness — it is Oanthrope's strongest defence. Most competitors try to sell "certainty"; science disproves them. Oanthrope earns trust by openly stating why certainty is impossible. Here, honesty becomes a competitive advantage.
1. Maturational age differs from calendar age.
Two children born on the same day can be years apart in biological maturation. An early-maturing child is faster than everyone at 11 — but that is timing, not talent. Oanthrope measures maturation (PHV) but cannot accelerate it, nor read a child's future through this temporary gap.
2. The late-developer advantage is real.
A child who looks behind today may simply be experiencing a later growth spurt. The same child can pull ahead at 17–18. An early "not talented" verdict is most unfair precisely to late developers — and drives them out of sport.
3. Talent is read from a trend, not a single measurement.
A single test day is affected by dozens of factors — sleep, nutrition, motivation, illness, stress. The real signal appears not in one snapshot but in the line drawn by repeated measurements over time.
4. Talent develops; it is not fixed.
Speed, agility, reaction, endurance — most of these are learnable and change with the right training. Today's score is not a destiny but a starting point. Oanthrope takes a photograph; changing that photograph is the job of training.
5. A human is not one-dimensional.
Physical profile is only one part of a child's story. Passion, character, family support, environment, luck and persistence — none can be measured by a test battery, and they are often more decisive than physical metrics.
6. The field itself works this way.
Even an experienced coach can only say an athlete has converged on their discipline at around 20–21 — and not always even then. Oanthrope imitates a coach's patience; being more hasty than a coach is not a virtue but a mistake.
In short: Oanthrope does not give a certain answer because honesty is what matters. What it gives is more valuable — your child's true profile today, in age-appropriate language, with a roadmap that narrows over time. Selling a promise of certainty is easy but wrong; pointing an honest direction is hard but valuable.
